When it comes to branding someone a terrorist, the world’s hypocrisy is palpable.
The latest attack near Finsbury Park mosque in North London, in which a van drove itself into pedestrians, is a terrifying reminder that Islamophobia is a reality that must be dealt with.
But it seems that, in the eyes of the Western media, terrorism does have a religion, and that religion is Islam.
A 48-year-old man drives his car into the many innocent Muslims which inhabit the area, attacking their place of worship, but nobody seems to care.
The silence of world leaders in the matter, frankly, is deafening.
Similarly, in Virginia, a Muslim girl was bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat.
Do these incidents not call for the strongest condemnation?
Much of the world has continuously asserted that moderate Muslims do not do enough to condemn terrorist attacks by other Muslims.
Well, then, we are waiting: Where is their outrage?
Time and again, terrorism has been deemed to be the product of Islam when, in fact, terrorism is bred in the minds of those fuelled by hatred and bigotry.
The continued silence on the issue is, sadly, a lapse into a biased narrative that sees Muslim victimisation as less important.
Let us remember that religion is a tool used by terrorists to further their propaganda and hatred, not the other way round.
We would do well to remind ourselves that any attack on a human being that is not condemned is an attack on humanity itself.
