Redefining public transport
The introduction of the Rapid Pass is probably one of the most important steps towards revolutionising our current public transport system. As it stands, public transport in Dhaka is, for many, a nightmare. With buses hiring underage and unlicensed drivers, refusing to follow traffic laws, and being under no extensive and thought-out management system, on top of traffic congestion, it has become almost a daily struggle for the residents of Dhaka to commute within the city. And since CNGs and taxis are not always affordable, and Mass Rapid Transit still having a few years for completion, it has become imperative that the government improves on the services the city already offers its citizens. In this regard, the Rapid Pass, a microchip card that can be used across all modes of public transport, including MRT, is an essential part of this process towards development and digitisation. Our dreams of becoming a digital Bangladesh and achieving middle-income status rely heavily on how efficient and useful our public transport systems are -- the Rapid Pass will go a long way in ensuring that this is the case. The potential of the Rapid Pass knows no bounds. Not only could this improve our overall experience of public transport, but could later on be used for the digital payment of utility bills and such. Though the Rapid Pass remains in its initial testing stage, we are sure that the government will do everything in its power to ensure that this moves forward as soon as possible, towards a public transport system that truly seeks to serve the people of this city.
