Corruption should not be seen as normal

It is rather unfortunate when a service-providing organization such as Rajuk, which is in charge of ensuring controlled development of the capital, turns into nothing short of a business enterprise itself -- with its corruption being an open secret amongst employees and regular citizens alike.

How is it that such an organization continues to function with little to no accountability, dealing in bribes for every transaction?

In fact, corruption within Rajuk is so ingrained that there are set fees that it charges illegally -- exponentially higher than what it is supposed to -- which the people of this city simply take as the status quo.

In this way, Rajuk represents the worst side of corruption in our country, in the fact that it has normalized bribery to such a degree that it has become an essential part of how it functions.

It is crucial to keep in mind that this is an organization that is in charge of ensuring that the development of our capital takes place in a controlled and planned manner, and this is the organization which we are allowing to function without accountability and restraint.

This is a state of affairs that is not merely embarrassing for a country whose primary goal has been, for the longest time, to develop sustainably, but also severely harmful in the long run for the health and safety of people of this city.

For Rajuk to go on, the way it conducts business must be transformed. It may require widespread reform, but business as usual should not be seen as an option at this point.
