Entrepreneurship is what drives a country forward, but the reality is that entrepreneurs, no matter how brilliant, cannot succeed all on their own. The young, enterprising minds of Bangladesh need a supportive environment: They need to be encouraged, and they need adequate funding. Furthermore, they need to have needless and senseless obstacles to business -- like red tape and bureaucracy -- to be removed from their path as much as possible. Only then will entrepreneurship fully thrive in this country.

It is absolutely wonderful to see seven start-ups and entrepreneurs being recognized, by Founder Institute Bangladesh, for their work. The innovations which these start-ups are working towards have the aim of improving living standards and generating employment through the use of information technology. If allowed to succeed, these start-ups could do wonders for our economy and encourage other entrepreneurs along the same path.

Kudos to the Founder Institute Bangladesh for inviting budding entrepreneurs to build technology business. We need more platforms like this -- platforms which nurture and guide the growth of innovative ideas, instead of shutting them down.

This is the year that Bangladesh celebrates 50 years of its independence. Economically and technologically speaking, we have come a long way since our impoverished days in the immediate aftermath of the war. A lot of our growth and development can be attributed to the dynamism of the private sector. If we are to reach our true potential in the years ahead, though, our businesses must evolve with the times.

This means embracing the future, embracing new tech, and embracing the fresh ideas of young entrepreneurs -- even ideas that are met with resistance by those used to doing things the old way.
