Bangladesh, in spite of the pandemic-induced economic downturn, has posted GDP growth of 5.24%
Despite the plethora of obstacles thrown at us by Covid-19, there is no doubt that the people of this nation, especially entrepreneurs, have shown immense resilience and overcome many of these obstacles.
As a result, the World Bank has acknowledged Bangladesh’s remarkable journey over the course of more than a year -- of continuing to showcase impressive economic development and growth against great odds.
More encouragingly, due to the economic strength Bangladesh has shown, the World Bank has also promised continued support in Bangladesh’s journey towards further prosperity.
Indeed, it is a matter of great pride that Bangladesh, in spite of the pandemic-induced economic downturn that left larger, stronger, and more developed economies struggling, has posted GDP growth of 5.24%.
This would not have been possible without the incentives and stipends doled out by the current government in addition to the aid and support we have received from our neighbours and international organizations like the World Bank.
But, most of all, this impressive development in the face of great trials and tribulations has been brought about by the millions of workers who faced great adversity and made immense sacrifices, as they lost their loved ones and were forced to stay indoors as lockdowns -- necessary as they were and continue to be -- were imposed one after another.
The pandemic, however, is far from over, and us Bangladeshis will no doubt face more challenges in the coming months or maybe years. The time now is to keep our priorities straight by vaccinating the nation, putting people first, and working together to get rid of Covid-19 once and for all.
