Ace archer Roman Sana has been promoted to the rank of lance naik in the Bangladesh Ansar and VDP.
Roman, who won a bronze medal in the World Archery Championship to get direct qualification for the Olympics in 2020, was given a badge by Ansar & VDP DG Major Gen Sharif Kaykobad at its headquarters in Dhaka’s Khilgaon Tuesday.
The archer achieved unprecedented success in the South Asian Games last month, winning three gold medals as the Bangladesh archery squad swept the discipline. Roman is now preparing for the ultimate stage for sports as he looks for further success.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s encouragement gives us special inspiration. We acknowledge the success of our sportspersons every year, and we have acknowledged Sana for his success at the SA games. As he has held Bangladesh’s esteem high in foreign lands several times, we have promoted him to lance naik,” said the DG.
Ansar atheletes who won medals at the SA games also received monetary awards from the organization.
“The prize money is very important for members of middle income families like me. I will get a better salary as Lance Naik and I can help my ailing mother and family with that,” said Sana.
