Robot carnival kicks off at Buet
The three-day long carnival has been organised by Buet Robotics Society (BRS). It will feature 400 young talents from all over the country. The carnival will host competitions, seminars and an Olympiad throughout the festival with participants from over 15 universities including Kuet, Cuet, Ruet, IUT, Sust, Duet, AUS and so on. The competitions will include an industrial automation challenge, a rescue mission and a traffic chase. BRS is pursuing practical application of robotics to emphasise the creation of a new horizon of possibilities. In the inaugural ceremony at Buet Auditorium, Prof Shaikh Anowarul Fattah of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering said efforts like this will help disseminate knowledge.   [caption id="attachment_37130" align="aligncenter" width="800"]BUET_Robo-Carnival The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam speaks at the inauguration ceremony of BRS ROBO Carnival Mahmud Hossain Opu/Dhaka Tribune [/caption]   He said: “This platform will allow young talents to showcase their ideas and interact with like-minded individuals.” The chief guest at the event, The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam said: “I don't know about robotics, but I understand how important it is.” “As a society, we need to become more efficient. We are talkers rather than doers. But, you sitting in front of me, are doers,” he further said. BRS President Irfan Hasib said: “Innovation is vital to our growing economy. Around the globe, Bangladeshi researchers are making breakthroughs across a range of disciplines like renewable energy, material science, medical technologies, etc. But their work is appropriated by foreign companies who sell us the technologies at a high price.” “We need to get out of this vicious cycle. The drive is simple – innovation; through which industry gets new products and technologies, universities get funding and the country gets talent – it’s a perfect recipe for sustainable economic growth that benefits all,” he added
