Casey speaks about being accused of sexual harassment

Casey Affleck has started to feel the chill of his big win at the Oscar on Sunday night. Some lauded the actor’s effort in Manchester by the Sea, while some viewers couldn’t help but troll the Best Actor win. Besides, the allegation of sexual harassment against Casey from a 2010 lawsuit which was filed by two women who worked with Casey on the film I’m Still Here, was stemming in several articles lately which also contributed to the cause. For instance, actor B J Novak expressed his disappointment by writing “Can we check Best Actor again,” in a tweet during the show. Constance Wu added, “Boys! Buy your way out of trouble by settling it out of court! Just do a good acting job, that’s all that matters! Because art isn’t about humanity, right?” “I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else,” he stated in an interview with Boston Globe Tuesday. “There’s really nothing I can do about it. Other than living my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time,” Casey added. Casey has deliberately denied the accusations against him and called the lawsuit “preposterous and without merit.” The suit didn’t sustain long as it was ultimately settled out of court but the essence of the lawsuit is still haunting the actor. According to Casey, both sides in the case are prohibited from commenting on the matter and he believes that the people who are condemning him on social media barely know what really happened. At the end of the day, the Oscar winning actor looked at the bright side of his victory and stayed out of all the negativity during his speech at the Oscar podium. “I wish I had something bigger and more meaningful to say, but I’m just really proud to be a part of this community and I look out at all of you and I have this whole year. I’m just dumb founded that I’m included. And it means a lot to me,” he said in the Dolby Theatre. After all, despite all the allegations and acrimony against him, Casey didn’t forget to appreciate his companions throughout the journey. In order to thank them, he said, “Of course, my mother and my father for mostly, usually believing in me in doing this. And Ben Affleck, I love you. You ain’t heavy. Thank you all very much.”
