The director’s guild of Bangladesh, which is considered one of the most vital organisations of local TV media has finally shared their view on the Doob controversy. Although the dispute regarding the Farooki movie has been going on for a while now, it’s the first time the guild released an official comment.
Some of the kingpins from the organisation have even warded off from the matter before by tagging it as dismaying to talk about and saying that an official statement will be released soon.
Belatedly, the official statement has come Tuesday through a Facebook post from the official page of the guild where renowned theatre artist Gazi Rakayet, who also helms the guild, clearly stated their stance on the matter.
“We don’t want any of our director’s cinema to be barred at the censor board. But taking advantage of personal and family life of an author like Humayun Ahmed is not also expected from anybody,” Rakayet stated in his post.
On the other hand, general secretary of the same organisation, SA Haque Alik backed Rakayet’s dubious stance.
When asked about the contradictory comment from their president, Alik replied, “Actually we own both of the parties. None of them is our enemy. We want equality. We don’t want any film to be banned without a valid reason. If the director says that there’s nothing about Humayun Ahmed in this movie, we’ll have to believe it as we haven’t seen the movie yet. As a result, I don’t think there’s any chance to make any official comment on the matter which could be puzzling.”
However, before the directors’ guild, “Bangladesh Gyan and Srizanshil Prokashak Samiti” has released a written protestation on February 23 against the movie, regarding the fact that it used parts of Humayun Ahmed’s personal life to prepare the storyline.
