
Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s famous short-story Manihara has been adapted into a TV drama to be directed by Asif Pial and Saimun Islam. The newly adapted drama incorporates a healthy dose of love and melancholy.
The story of Manihara revolves around Manimalika, the wife of a wealthy landlord, who has an addiction for gold ornaments. Due to her infertility, Manimalika has to face derogatory comments from the both her neighbours and family members. So the couple decide to leave their family behind and move far away.
At one point in the story, Manimalika’s ex-boyfriend, who was looking for a job, discovers them and starts to live with the couple. One day, a fire breaks out in the landlord’s warehouse and burns down every last bit of his property. The landlord travels to the city in search of money while Monika flees with her ex-boyfriend with all the ornaments he had given her. The story takes a somber turn from this point onwards.
Tariq Anam Khan plays the role of the the landlord in the drama, while Masuda Bijli portrays that of his wife. Manihara also features acclaimed actor Shatabdi Wadud and Soikat Siddique in important roles.
Manihara will be aired on Maasranga Television on May 8 at 7:40 pm, on the occasion of Rabindranath’s birth anniversary.
