Veteran director and actor Kazi Hayat is stepping out of the Cholochitro Parichalak Samiti. The eight time National Award winning director sent a membership cancellation application to the association on Thursday, sources confirmed.
Sahabuddin, the publication and office secretary of the Dhallywood director’s organisation, has accepted the application.
“I have applied to register the name of a film I am making. The deliberate stonewalling of the registration process has embarrassed me. Under the circumstances, I hope you’ll oblige me by revoking my membership from the organisation,” reads Hayat’s application. Kazi said that he has taken the decision because of the humiliation he had to face to register his 50th film.
“I’ve applied for the registration of a film titled, Amar Shopno Amar Desh. It doesn’t take more than five minutes to register a film, as was the case with the 49 films I’ve previously made. But they are not registering this one. They have no objection regarding the name of the film. Maybe it’s their objection against me. I’ve tried to talk with the general secretary but he referred me to the president. When I asked the secretary-general about the matter, he replied that he doesn’t know anything about it. I am appalled by the disrespect and that’s why I decided to revoke my membership,” he said to a local news portal.
“I may not make films any more. How can I make films when the whole association is against me?” he added.
Rumour has it that the behaviour of the directors’ association is highly influenced by Kazi’s recent stance against the association regarding the Jaaz Multimedia issue. But the Tezi director believes that he did nothing wrong.
“I did not play any role there. I just told them to unite for the sake of our own industry. Besides, it’s in the regulations, provided by the government,” he replied when asked if he thought the two things were related.
On the other hand, Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, president of the Cholochitro Parichalak Samiti, said that they have received the application and are discussing the matter with great importance.
However, an important meeting of Cholochitro Oikyajot took place on Thursday, but no decision regarding Kazi Hayat was taken in the meeting, confirmed actor Farooq, the convenor of the association .
Starting his career as an assistant director in 1974, Kazi Hayat went to make a number of blockbuster movies and won several international awards including the prestigious National Film award. The director raised his voice against all kinds of oppression through his films and eventually, established himself as one of the most influential directors in Dhallywood till date.
Hayat showed off his excellent directorial abilities in the films, Tras and Chadabaz. The director’s commercially successful films include the likes of Shipahi, Loot toraz, and Tezi. His magnum opus Ammajan was a blockbuster film, which helped late superstar Manna to rise to fame.
