Now playing: Voyongkor Sundor
Acclaimed director Animesh Aich’s much-anticipated film, Voyangkor Sundor was released on August 4. According to the director, his psychological drama film is now being screened at 28 theatres around the country. The première show of the film took place on August 3 which was attended by Hasanul Haq Inu, hon’ble information minister, actors Bhabna, Parambrata, singer Momtaz, and composer Emon Saha, along with the director. Animesh was reportedly offered the release of his film at 150 theatres nationwide but he decided to release Voynagkor Sundor in just 28 theatres, an unusual move, considering how many local directors actually complain about insufficient local movies for releases. Moreover, there’s just one film that was released this week. [caption id="attachment_141733" align="alignleft" width="300"]1476803277 Animesh Aich[/caption] Why did Animesh do so? Is he getting shorted by the Kakrail-centred distribution squad, who are reportedly against the rise of non-mainstream films? Speculation has been rife ever since the director disclosed the number of theatres Voyangkor Sundor is being screened at. Animesh spoke on the issue and confirmed that it was his decision to lower the number of theatres. “I could have released the film at 150 theatres. Even the theatre owners were eager to comply. I’ve undertaken the role of distribution this time. As a result, I am realising things better than before. I don’t want to go large scale just yet. We want to expand the numbers over the weeks, which is why we’ve  selected the top 28 theatres around the country. Let’s see what’s waiting for us there,” he clarified. Voyangkor Sundor is available at nine theatres in Dhaka, including Madhumita, Bolaka, Ananda, Shymoli, Punom, Garrison, New Gulshan, Jamuna Blockbuster and Star Cineplex. Animesh, along with the lead actors of the film, Dhaka’s Bhabna and Kolkata’s Parambarata are planning to visit several theatres over the weeks to promote their venture. Voyangkor Sundor, the two hours and ten minutes long psychological drama revolves around an innocent couple Muku and Nayontara, who live in an area of Dhaka city where the supply of drinking water is limited. During summer, the water supply is ceases for a few days. A conflict arises and spurs on an unexpected tale of revenge. Starring Kolkata’s Parambrata and Dhaka’s Bhabna in the lead roles, the film’s story is inspired by Moti Nandi’s story Joler Ghurni O Bokbok Shobdo. The film also features Hasan Imam, Khairul Alam Sabuj, Lutfor Rahman Jeorge, Faruque Ahmed, Allen Shuvro, among other actors.
