After a long turbulent journey, the much anticipated Bangladesh-India joint production film Doob (No Bed of Roses) is finally all set to hit the theaters.
The film will see a wide release on October 27 both in Bangladesh and India. At the same, the film may also see release in Australia and Singapore, depending on the talk with the Australian and Singapore distributors that is currently taking place. More countries might be included later.
Meanwhile, the producers have also decided to go for a limited release on September 15, which would make the film qualiafied for submission under the foreign language category at the Academy Awards.
Jointly produced by Jaaz Multimedia and Eskay movies, co-produced by Irrfan Khan, and directed by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, the film has already garnered rave reviews from top film magazines including Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and Screen daily.
Variety wrote, “Directed with an assured and graceful touch that evokes the elegiac tone of a requiem, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki proves he’s a singular voice in Bangladeshi cinema.” It also heavily praised Irrfan Khan’s performance as well as special mentioning Nusrat Imrose Tisha.
The Hollywood Reporter called the film “Thoroughly modern. A sobering, engrossing separation drama.” Screen Daily described it as a “sensitive and nuanced film” with a heavy praise for its “arresting visuals, universally strong cast, and evocative music.”
The film has already bagged an independent jury award at the 39th Moscow International Film Festival besides being nominated for the Golden Goblet Awards in Shanghai International Film Festival.
Prior to the release, it’s going to start its second lent of festival journey, the details of which will be revealed soon.
To make the release a special one, internationally acclaimed star Irrfan Khan is coming Dhaka to join the premiere. A big contest is being planned to give the general audience an opportunity to watch the film with Irrfan Khan, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Parno Mittra and the director himself. In addition, the winners of the contest will be allowed to take photos with the stars in front of a souvenir backdrop.
