After a hiatus of more than 25 years, Linda Hamilton is all set to return to the world of Terminator, reuniting with James Cameron, the creator of the sci-fi film, for the new instalment of the popular franchise.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cameron himself made the announcement at a private event celebrating the storied franchise, saying, “As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return.”
Hamilton will reprise her role as Connor in the as-yet-untitled sixth instalment of the series, which will see her reunited with Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose own appearance in Terminator 6 was confirmed earlier this year. Cameron will produce the film along with Skydance, while Deadpool helmer Tim Miller occupies the director’s chair.
Terminator 6 is being treated as a direct sequel to 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day and will be distributed by Paramount with Fox handling it internationally. The story of the film was crafted by Cameron himself, making the film the first instalment of a new trilogy.
With both Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has starred as both the antagonist and protagonist portraying the cool killer robot sent from the future, and Hamilton playing one of the silver screen’s strongest female heroines, Sarah Connor. The new Terminator film will once again have its original creative team.
However, story details of the film is being kept on a secure hard drive at Cyberdyne Systems, but it is speculated that the themes of the potential evils of technology will once again be at the fore in the new instalment, which will also be seen as a passing of the baton to a new generation of characters.
