
Legendary Bollywood actor of American descent Tom Alter has died of skin cancer. According to his family’s statement, the Indian Padma Shri holder has died in Mumbai, in his own home, surrounded by family and friends.
Alter is well known for his fluid command over Indian theatre, television and Bollywood movies. Over 300 films have been marked by Alter’s presence, where he has worked with different languages from all parts of India. He has worked in Hindi, Bengali, Assamese and Telegu films. This cricket enthusiast actor has also appeared in famous movies like Shatranj Ke Khiladi, Gandhi, Parinda, Kranti, Ashiqui and Junoon.
With over three generations of his family migrating from Ohio in the United States to Pakistan and then to India, this remarkable actor started his filming career in 1976 in Bollywood movies.
Press reports confirms that his burial will take place on Wednesday.
