Riz Ahmed eyes Netflix's Hamlet
Word on the street is that Riz Ahmed is about to star in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet. The young actor is on a fast descent up the ladder of fame since his role in HBO's The Night Of which helped him bag the Emmy. The adaptation is to be written by Mike Lesslie who previously penned 2015's Macbeth starring Michael Fassbender. The play centres on the revenge Prince Hamlet is compelled to wreak upon his uncle, Claudius, by the ghost of his father, but will get an update in setting, moving from 17th-century Denmark to modern day London, 'complete with economic and political uncertainty'.Hamlet's previous adapation on screen has been played by esteemed actors as Kenneth Branagh, Ethan Hawke and Mel Gibson, with countless others playing it on stage- Benedict Cumberbatch, Oscar Isaac of late among them. This will indeed be another achievement for the first ever Emmy winner of South Asian descent. The British actor is enjoying a stratospheric rise at the minute with his last role on the Star Wars franchise, Rogue One. His next project will be DC's Venom and drama The Sisters Brothers, starring alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Joaquin Phoenix.
