Anticipations for Doob: No Bed of Roses
Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s 6th feature and Irrfan Khan starrer Doob: No Bed of Roses is set to release in Bangladesh, India, North America, Australia and UK simultaneously on October 27. Irrfan Khan will arrive in Dhaka on October 25 to take part on promoting the film and will be in the country during the film’s premiere. Reportedly, Doob: No Bed of Roses will screen in 100 cinema halls in Bangladesh and 200 halls in India. The film’s journey so far has not been an easy one. The film had to face some censorship issues; its No Objection Certificate was suspended. Even after the suspension was lifted, it had yet to pass the Bangladesh Censor Board. The controversies started when it was rumoured that Doob: No Bed of Roses was based on the life of famous writer and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed. However Farooki, the director, has strongly denied the possibilities of the film being a biopic. The film also stars Bangladeshi actors Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Rokeya Prachi and Kolkata’s Parno Mittra. Doob is produced by Abdul Aziz under the banner of Jaaz Multimedia and co-produced by Irrfan Khan respectively. It’s quite obvious that people are eagerly waiting for the film. The amount of hype the movie has received since its announcement is known to all. People of Bangladesh have always loved Farooki. Whether it was Bachelor or 420, the television series, he knows how to pull things off. Nonetheless, the addition of such a world-class actor like Irrfan Khan has certainly made the film most appealing. It should be a treat for the eyes to watch Irrfan Khan in a Farooki film. Youngsters of our country are very enthusiast about for the film. It is unlikely to go to a University campus and hear people debating over the pros and cons. Sonia Afrin Eshita, a 4th year student from Dhaka University said: “I will most definitely go and watch the film since it stars Irrfan Khan. He is an awesome actor. Watching a collaboration of Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and Irrfan Khan excites me the most.” This is Irrfan’s 10th international film and his presence has made the film even bigger. It is not unknown that he has such a large fan following all over the world, including Bangladesh. Doob’s trailer was released last month and recently the music video, “AhareJibon” by the popular band Chirkutt, has gone viral on YouTube. Apparently, the only song from the film was written and composed by them. “I have always admired Farooki. The moment I saw the trailer, I was sure I wanted to see this film. I loved the trailer and the song by Chirkutt,” said Imtiaz Ahmed, a student of East West University. The recent success of Dhaka Attack in the capital and other districts as well, while still going strong, it is good to see the changing scenario within the country, where people are more aware these days about entertainment, especially the youth. People are reminiscing the golden days of Bangla cinema with films Dhaka Attack and Aynabji. Hence, Doob won’t be any different. Cinephiles have high expectation from this film. “It takes an actor of Irrfan Khan’s stature and magnetism to turn an intimate separation drama into something special, and a writer-director like Bangladesh’s happy maverick Mostofa Sarwar Farooki to layer on subtleties and shades of meaning with realistic detachment that never slips into melodrama,” wrote the Hollywood Reporter, after the successful participation of the film in El Gouna film festival. Doob won the Kommersant Jury Award at the 39th Moscow International Film Festival, while it was nominated for the Golden Gablet Awards in Shanghai International Film Festival. Farooki, who is known in for his works like Television and Ant Story, is confident about his upcoming release.
