Bangladesh Chalachitra Paribar, a renowned film organisation, hosted a press conference on October 19 at BFDC’s Zahir Raihan VIP Projection Hall on the recent debates over late filmmaker, composer, music director, producer and actor Khan Ataur Rahman.
The press conference served as a protest from the filmmakers’ community of Bangladesh against famous film and stage director Nasiruddin Yousuff, also a freedom fighter, who recently tagged legendary film director Khan Ataur Rahman as a “Razakar” at a cultural function in New York.
National Film Award winning actor and freedom fighter Farooque, filmmaker Amjad Hossain, CB Zaman, Azizur Rahman, Mushfikur Rahman Guljar, Khan Ataur Rahman’s son Khan Asifur Rahman Agun, who is a singer and actor himself, were present at the press conference.
Film director Azizur Rahman said that Khan Ataur Rahman worked on Bangla films during the liberation war in spite of threats from the Pakistanis, asking if a Razakar would do this.
Meanwhile, CB Zaman said that he hates the people who make such accusations against Khan Ata.
Actor and freedom fighter Farooque told the press that Khan Ataur Rahman’s 1973 feature film “Abar Tora Manush Ho” was released during the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman government. He also explained how this film created a debate back then and was reviewed by freedom fighter Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury (current Disaster and Relief Management minister) and re-released. He then stated how Nasiruddin Yousuff is the one opposing the liberation by criticising Khan Ata, whereas the liberation war government didn’t object to his film.
“Abar Tora Manush Ho” was screened after the press conference.
