Jessia in Miss World ‘Final 40’
Bangladesh’s Jessia Islam has made it to the “Final 40” at the 67th Miss World 2017 competition after winning the “Head-to-Head Challenge” round from group six, sending her to the grand finale. The organisers of the international beauty pageant told the press that the “Final 40” was selected out of 120 contestants, each representing their respective countries. In the “Head to Head Challenge” round, which has been added to the Miss World competition for the first time, contestants, who were divided into 20 groups comprising of six contenders, were asked about their future plans. Jessia responded by saying that she wishes to play a pivotal role for equal rights, by focusing on establishing institutions in remote areas of Bangladesh for women. The institutions would devote to training females to develop their job skills, and become self-reliant and confident. During the second part of the challenge, all contestants were asked about their thoughts on the impact and consequences of social media. Jessia responded by talking about the positive and negative impacts of social media, especially how it (social media) has lost its sole purpose; a platform that is pushing people away from one another and creating fake news. Since the news broke out, social media has congratulated the 18-year-old model for her achievement and her advancement into the competition’s grand finale, representing Bangladesh. In a recent Facebook post on her official page, Jessia also confirmed the news of reaching in the top 40 and thanked the Almighty, her family, friends and her country.

Jessia Islam, among 40 other beauty queens, will compete in different categories during the finale at Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Sanya on November 18. The two-and-a-half-hour long event will be hosted by Tim Vincent, Megan Young and Steve Douglas. As ever, the current Miss World, Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico, will crown her successor at the end of the event.
