
Professor and director at the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies of Dhaka University, Dr. Israfil Shahin’s play “Phèdre” will be performed on stage at the 8th Theatre Olympics in 2018.

Hosted by the subcontinent’s famous drama joint, New Delhi’s National School of Drama (NSD), the 8th Theatre Olympics is going to be held from 17th February to 8th April 2018.
The Theatre Olympics features works by playwrights, directors, actors, designers, theatre groups and drama institutions from India and abroad. The programme showcases outstanding productions that have been performed for its audience on or before 31st August 2017.
“Phèdre,” originally known as “Phèdre et Hippolyte,” is a French dramatic tragedy written by Jean Racine, which was first performed in 1677 at the theatre of the Hôtel de Bourgogne in Paris.
Dr Shahin’s adaptation, which will be performed by his department’s Master's students, along with 500 other productions selected from around the world will be staged at the event.
Each year, the Theatre Olympics sets a theme for its annual event, hence setting the theme of “Flag of Friendship” for the 8th Theatre Olympics 2018.
