Amidst a controversy that has plagued rock band Miles and its members for a while now, frontman Shafin Ahmed has issued a legal notice to stop the use of the band’s name in any concert or programme without approval.
Shafin on Thursday posted a copy of the legal notice on his Facebook profile asking all concerned parties not to use Miles’s name without his permission.
Signed by Supreme Court lawyer Mostofa Jamal Pasha, the notice claimed the musician was the entrepreneur, one of the founders and managing director of Miles Band Ltd.
Hinting to the other band members, it said some people were performing stage shows and making financial exchanges with other entities using the Miles name illegally as they did not take prior written permission from Shafin, the band’s vocal and bassist.
The notice also claimed the rights to perform anywhere and engage in any activity under Miles’s name belonged to Shafin only.
It then went on to ask the musicians involved in such activities to refrain themselves from using the band’s name or face legal actions.
Founded in 1979 and widely considered as one of the most popular rock bands of the country, Miles gave birth to a new controversy several months ago after rumour spread that Shafin Ahmed is going to step down from his troupe yet again to pursue his solo career, following his absence in the recent shows.
When asked recently, Shafin dismissed the rumour and assured fans that he was not leaving the band.
But he also said there are some unresolved issues with other band members and he will not appear in any future shows with the band until they are resolved.
Pointing towards the bickering within the band, Shafin had claimed: “The junior band members have started to behave inappropriately. They need to learn more and understand a lot of things. They should know that jealousy will not take them anywhere.”
He added that he had nothing to do with anyone using his popularity and becoming unstable. “That is why the activities of the band have been halted until further notice.”
Meanwhile, other band members - Shafin’s brother Hamin Ahmed, Manam Ahmed, Iqbal Asif Jewel and Syed Ziaur Rahman Turjo - have denied the accusations Shafin made.
According to them, there have been no such issues within the band except for Shafin, who they said wants to concentrate on a solo career rather than the band, raising such allegations.
Nevertheless, Shafin, who is said to be working on his singles currently, was seen performing solo on stage at Khagrachhori few days before he raised the allegations.
