Movies Hollywood has to offer in 2018
If you are a film buff, probably your new calendar is already marked with the movies that are scheduled to be released throughout 2018. Here is a sneak peak of some films coming out this year featuring our favourite actors and directors. The first month of the year, however, has a surprisingly low number of films in the list. After Hollywood churned out its best films for award giving ceremonies in the fall season, January rests in the afterglow of the incredible movies like Steven Spielberg’s “The Post” and Aaron Sorkin’s “Molly’s Game” this year. However, there will be several new releases more to look forward to like the fourth installation of Insidious horror franchise, “Insidious: The Last Key.” Two of the most anticipated horror movies – the 3rd installation in “Cloverfield” cycle and Helen Mirren’s “Winchester”- are set to be released on the second day of February. “The 15:17 to Paris”, a film based on the ISIS attack on a Thalys train in 2015 and directed by Clint Eastwood, will be released on February 9, along with the last of the Fifty Shades trilogy, “Fifty Shades Freed,” and “Black Panther,” the next flick in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In March, Jennifer Lawrence will play a Russian spy in “Red Sparrow,” Alicia Vikander will replace Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft in “Tomb Raider,” Wes Anderson will come out with another stop-motion animation “Isle of Dogs” and Spielberg will return with his dystopian novel adaptation “Ready Player One.” Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” directed by Ava DuVernay, will be released too that month. “The New Mutants,” directed by Josh Boone, will come out on April 13. “Tully,” where Charlize Theron plays a mother of three who forms a bond with their nanny, will be released on April 20 along with Brad Peyton’s “Rampage,” with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in the lead role. In May, the MCU will expand more as the Avengers will team up with the “Guardians of the Galaxy” in “Avengers: Infinity War.” Disney will release another Star Wars prequel/spinoff featuring a young Han Solo in “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” Richard Linklater directs Cate Blanchett as an architect turned reclusive stay-at-home mom who goes missing before a family vacation to Antarctica in “Where’d You Go, Bernadette,” also set to be released in May. June will be a month of sequels with “Deapool 2,” “Ocean’s 8,” “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.” In July, MCU’s next flick in the line “Ant-Man and the Wasp” is scheduled for release. “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation,” “Skyscraper,” “Alita: Battle Angel” and “Mission: Impossible 6” are also slated for a July release. August will see the first primarily Asian cast movie since “The Joy Luck Club” (1993), Jon M Chu’s “Crazy Rich Asians.” Chu previously directed many big budget films including “Now You See Me 2.” September, however, has no major movie releases declared as of yet. In October, actor Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut “A Star Is Born” will feature Lady Gaga and Barbra Streisand. Marvel and Sony will release Spider-Man spinoff “Venom,” starring Tom Hardy. Ryan Gosling will take a giant leap for mankind as Neil Armstrong in Damien Chazelle’s “First Man.” Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie will star in the 16th century England period piece “Mary, Queen of Scots” in November. Sophie Turner will return as Jean Grey to the cast of X-Men in the sequel “X-Men: Dark Phoenix.” Jude Law will play Albus Dumbledore in “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,” in which Eddie Redmayne will reprise his role as Newt Scamander and Johnny Depp as the villain Gellert Grindelwald. Rami Malek’s Freddie Mercury biopic, “Bohemian Rhapsody” will be released on Christmas Day in 2018, along with “Mary Poppins Returns” starring Emily Blunt as everyone’s favourite nanny.
