Actor- Singer Mithila has never slowed her pace. She knows how to cross the speed bumps while cruising down life's lane. She is now more confident and braver than ever. Sitting down with Dhaka Tribune Showtime's Rumpa Syeda Farzana Zaman for an intimate conversation, the brilliant actor and singer talks about her future and more Rafiath Rashid Mithila is a name of a successful singer, songwriter, presenter and a famous actor. Her many talents and intelligence are manifest in her apt handling of a busy media career and holding down a leading position at a prominent development organization at the same time. And yet this brilliant star was in the public eye last year, not because of her work but for her own personal woes. It was an internet nightmare, with people criticizing her for moving out of her marriage, mocking and slandering her. Mithila never got into this fight. She refused to slow down and let people's hate get in the way of her life. She is now more confident and braver than ever. Showtime sat down with the actor and singer Mithila talked about her life and what she plans to do in the future and more. At the start of the conversation Mithila herself started talking about what she wants to do. “I'd like to study more, but I think my family will probably tell me to leave if I say that I am planning on another masters degree after completing so many,” she said laughing. We asked Mithila, who has been, for her entire life, engaged in the entertainment business, what else she wants to do and more importantly what she did not do in her life. “I was always singing and dancing, but as I got older, I started writing.” She still writes but her busy life does not permit her to write seriously. She has also authored many songs. “All I get to write are thesis papers and I don’t get much scope to write those these days,” she said. The actor said these are unavoidable parts of life, as she got into a job the very next day after her graduation. Mithila is very serious about her career and prioritizes it more than anything. Even when she is offered an acting job, the first thing she does is check her office schedule. Perhaps that reason she is mostly seen in special holiday season dramas. She will however be seen in an upcoming Valentine's Day special drama. The audience can hear that too because for the first time in her life she is doing a project that includes her media and professional career in collaboration with Radio Shadhin. The topic of the drama is a child’s mental growth in our society. Starting from February the goal of this show is to guide parent’s how they can help their children grow into better human beings. When asked if Mithila is facing any questions as she is the only parent of her child she said: “I think a real parent is the one who loves and cares for the child.” “That can be anyone- the child’s grandfather or grandmother or aunt or mother or father or both or anyone,” she added. She thinks that she herself is learning to be a better parent each day as her daughter grows up. Within all these is her career and media life. She thinks she is carrying everything in a very balanced way as from a very young age she gained experience to maintain a lot of things together. She does think that she did not give her media appearance enough time. “When you are multitasking you have to set certain priorities and to me my profession comes first, then my media life because it is an interest of mine. That is why, I usually sign up for a project at least two or three months ahead and if office work comes up I have to cancel it.” She also said that she never thought of herself as desperate whereas always did what she wanted and what she is passionate about. Having a lot of good offers and opportunities she never moved from her goal. Whether it be media or her professional life, quality work is most important to her. She smiled and added: “I never wanted to become a star or a celebrity. I just wanted to do quality work and trying my best to do so everyday.” She said that she doesn’t get enough time to write songs that is why that moved behind in her priority list but she does want to comeback with some of her original tracks sometime. Maybe the listeners will get that for a special day in the future. When asked about anchoring, her partner onstage and on screen who also was her former partner, came into the conversation. She was asked if they are willing to work even after their divorce she clearly answered: “We are not working together anymore and if we do that will give people a confused message. I am consciously not working together and think people understand my perception as no one gave such offer.” Though she is sailing smoothly in her professional life but her personal life was hampered in many ways after the divorce as the social media exploded with negativity. Mithila thinks people can hide their identity on social media to slander and abuse someone but no one she knows had told her something that will hurt her. “Specially questions like 'go back' or 'what will happen to your daughter.' No one will will understand my situation and of course I know what is best for my daughter.” “Many newspapers wrote, how Mithila is these days, these sorts of stuff. As if I should have died or gone mental or why am I living alone? - but why? No one asks the male these questions after the divorce. Why no one writes how is that person after his divorce?” Mithila said. Life does not stop after an incident, according to Mithila. If questions arise then both parties should be thrown questions at. That is the reason Mithila is moving forwards every single day. Currently working with children and in the future wants to get into writing more seriously. If time, scope and choice intersects she even wants to work on the big screen too but when that she is not sure about. What she does know that she is going to work on a TV drama project with Krisnendu Chattapaddhay which will be shot on Kolkata which will also be her first trip to that city. After talking about all these plans, she also said that literature has many interesting male characters like Feluda, Kaka Babu or even Himu. If she is asked to act in the female version of such characters, she is willing to work. “Our media still writes very male-oriented stories. I think our media will be more complete if stories of a woman’s life, struggles and challenges are portrayed on screen. I always talk about these to my director friends.” She also thinks that our media can be the mirror to portray a woman’s social position. Only then our society can be more equal towards men and women. The multi-talented Mithila prioritises her motherhood more than anything. During the end of the conversation she laughed and said: “I don’t set goals like beforehand but yes, five years later my biggest achievement will be that I’ll become the mother of a ten year old.”
