Popular theatre troupe Loko Natyadol will stage the 707th show of “Kanjush” at Jatiya Natyashala, Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Dhaka on March 3 at 7:00pm. Veteran actor Tarik Anam Khan adapted the play from the famous French playwright Moliere’s play “The Miser.”
Directed by Liaquat Ali Lucky, the troupe president and the director general of BSA, the play focuses on hypocrisy, greed and egocentrisms in people.
The titular character of “Kanjus” is a rich and cunning old man named Haider Ali whose local dialect punches into the play. He spends his days hoarding money and devising ways to cut back his household expenses. The plot thickens when Haider wishes to marry his son’s betrothed and arranges a marriage for his daughter, Laily, who is secretly seeing one of their male servants.
