After Bollywood legend Sridevi’s funeral on February 28, Kapoor, Ayyappan and Marwah family jointly released a statement expressing their grief at the actor’s passing and their gratitude to her fans for their outpouring of affection.
“The past few days have been trying times for us as a family. Today particularly, has been one of the hardest. We laid to rest a beautiful soul who has gone too soon,” the joint statement from the Kapoor, Ayyappan and Marwah family read. “The one thing that helped us get through these last few days, was the amazing amount of love and respect from everyone – be it her many colleagues to her innumerable fans, her caring friends and loving family, from across the country and the world.”
A very private Boney Kapoor also expressed his grief on Sridevi’s official twitter page.
"Losing a friend, wife and mother of two young daughters is a loss inexplicable in words. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my family, friends, colleagues and well-wishers and all of you countless fans of my Sridevi who have stood by us like rocks,” the grieving statement read, "To the world she was their Chandni... the actor par excellence... their Sridevi... but to me she was my love, my friend, mother to our girls... my partner. To our daughters, she was their everything... their life. She was the axis around which our family ran."
Anil Kapoor thanked the Mumbai Police for giving them the “space and privacy” they needed during her funeral.
Sridevi was cremated on February 28 with full state honours in Vile Parle Seva Samaj Crematorium, Mumbai. The state honours included draping her body in the tricolour, elaborate arrangements by the Mumbai Police and gun salute. Thousands walked 7kms with the hearse all the way to the crematorium.
