With the sun setting in the west and the sky turning purple, the grandstand of the Bangladesh Army Stadium will be taken over by eight of the scene-leading high octane rock bands from Bangladesh- the powerhouse of Dhaka – Powersurge, alternative and pop rock band Shunno, rock infected Arbovirus, fusion band Chirkutt, progressive metal band Cryptic Fate, alternative rock band Nemesis, folk-rock troupe Lalon and finally, celebrated progressive rock band – Artcell.
Over the years, Joy Bangla Concert, one of the largest annual rock music extravaganzas in the country, has eventually turned into a great occasion to celebrate history and youth too. Like every year, anticipations are riding high from both the audience to the performers' end, surrounding the fourth instalment of the jubilant rock extravaganza.
Undoubtedly, fans are super excited to witness their favourite bands performing live. But how excited are the artists who are going to be featured in the concert? When asked, Chirkutt vocal Sumi said that the concert itself is an exciting initiative taken by Young Bangla. “Joy Bangla Concert is not just another musical platform, rather it provides a unique opportunity for the youth of the country to reunite with their patriotic spirits,” Sumi said. “The people of Bangladesh have snatched many victories standing together and when we perform on stage in front of this crowd, it reminds us of the uncompromising evergreen Bengali spirit. As a band, this particular event inspires Chirkutt a lot,” she added.
Arbovirus vocalist Sufi, who along with his troupe, has rocked the stage in all editions of the concert, said, “We feel privileged to have the opportunity of connecting with a diversified crowd every year through the Joy Bangla Concert. This is the type of endeavour that takes us and our music beyond a certain group of fans.”
What is the troupe cooking for their audience for the show this year? Sufi, who along with his band will be on-stage around 4:30pm, promises to have some surprises for the crowd. “It's been a year since we released our 3rd
album 'Bishesh Droshtobbo' and we will perform tracks from the album as well,” he added.
Ever since the endeavour of celebrating the nationally significant day with music and youthfulness has been undertaken, fans of the band Artcell were seen eager to have them perform in the Joy Bangla Concert. Finally, their dream is coming true this year. Followed by the large number of online votes cast by their fandom, Artcell has been included in the line-up this year. Expressing his delight upon the invitation, Artcell frontman Lincoln said, “It is a great pleasure for us to be invited in the concert. Artcell wasn't included in the line up last time. But the love and support of our fans have brought us to the platform this year.”
Emphasising on the spirit of the day, Lincoln added, “This is certainly a big day for us. Not only because of the concert, but also because of the spirit the day contains for us as a nation. This is the day when the father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman fuelled our enthusiasm with his stimulus speech that ultimately led us to be a free nation.”
When asked about their plan for the concert, Lincoln put it this way, “This is a day of strength and energy, which are something Artcell promises to showcase on stage on the day.”
