The ninth show of the acclaimed theatre production of “12 Angry Men” by Open Space Theatre will be staged next Saturday, March 31.
One of the actors of the play, Fairooz Alam told Showtime: “Joining Open Space Theatre has been a decision on my behalf which I shall cherish for all time to come. It is a team who makes anyone so welcomed into its gathering that one cannot but learn acting in it in the most suitable of environments, As an actor of 12 Angry Men, which was this group’s first show, I can surely attest to the fact that this group has and will go a long way, and it will be an honor on my side to accompany this team in its glorious and cultural journey.”
Founder & Chief Organizer at Open Space Theatre, Mahjabeen Chowdhury explained why they chose this script for their first production: “It’s too good of a script to give a second thought about choosing it. The moment we had the translated (Bangla) version of this masterpiece, we decided to make a play out of it.”
“It’s a very intense, thoroughly argumentative plot, which makes the whole story lively. This script also has extreme ‘repeat-value.’ As an audience, or as a performer, even if you watch or perform this show a thousand times, you still feel the urge to experience that whole incident all over again,” she said. “In all possible ways, it was a flawless script for our first production. So it was an instinctive and united choice by our director, M Arifur Rahman and our performers.”
Theatre lovers from different walks of life who didn’t have an outlet to practice and display their craft inspired the formation of Open Space Theatre. Mahjabeen said the team expected the huge audience turnout and satisfied reviews that followed each show.
“The way people wrote reviews online, shared our events, thanked us personally, and showed their appreciation by being our evangelists, made us work even harder to better ourselves. The legends of Bangladeshi Theatre community- Ataur Rahman Sir, Ramendu Majumdar Sir and Sara Zaker Madam, were generously encouraging about our activities, performance, production, and philosophy.”
Directed by M Arifur Rahman, “12 Angry Men” will run from 7:30pm to 9:00pm on March 31 at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Experimental Theatre Hall.
