The 14-year-old actor left Twitter on Wednesday after she became the target of a hateful meme that quickly went viral
Millie Bobby Brown, a vocal anti-bullying advocate, deleted her Twitter account after becoming the target of internet trolls who were making up stories about her being racist and homophobic towards fans.
The problem with internet trolling of this kind is you can’t immediately discern if they’re being sarcastic or if they’re serious.
The memes mainly features people writing nasty messages and attributing them to the Stranger Things actress. Several Twitter users (trolls) made up memes about her, using pictures of Millie and putting offensive and untrue captions—claiming the 14-year-old actor had indeed made these racist and homophobic comments.

Amid the confusion, many people believed the meme to be based on facts; this further escalated the situation.
The meme has been surfacing on social media since last year, but this week it finally went too far.
The trolls have been using the hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown to gang up on the teenage actress.
This appears to have started in November 2017 when @KelsFiona said the 14-year-old snatched her hijab at the airport. It was obviously fake — when another Twitter user pointed out that she doesn't have a hijab on in her profile picture, @KelsFiona said, "because she ripped it off me."

However, people are sympathizing with her as many are stepping up and calling out the trolls for bullying her.
Earlier in June, Star Wars actress Kelly Marie Tran quit Instagram after suffering months of racist and sexist abuse on social media.
The Vietnamese-American actress starred as mechanic-turned-Resistance fighter Rose Tico in 2017’s The Last Jedi.
