“Alta,” a popular TV drama of Bangladesh Television (BTV) in the 80s, is set to get a reboot on the same channel.

The play, based on popular Bangladeshi writer Imdadul Haque Milon’s novel, “Jodi Bhalobasha Paai,” was directed by Kamrun Nesa Hasan back in the 80s and featured Shomi Kaysar and Tauquir Ahmed in the lead roles. The 2018 reboot and modern adaptation of the original series will be directed by Mahfuza Akter, featuring Himi, Sajal, Doly Johur, Al Mamun, Masum, and many others, according to a recent press statement issued by BTV.

The television drama plot portrays the story of a village teenager named Alta who is married off to a man. Later on she finds out her husband is actually a fraud who marries women in different regions of the country, to collect dowry from their families. As things start to unravel she escapes to her village and comes across a younger man who recently returned from abroad. They fall in love but problems arise when Alta’s husband returns to get her back.

The reboot of “Alta” after almost 30 years is a part of BTV’s new project, “E Maasher Natok.” Popular TV dramas from the early days of BTV will be broadcast as modern adaptations in this project. Each of these new adaptations will air on the last Friday of each month.

“Alta,” the first reboot of this latest project, will air today at 9pm.
