A road of the premier port city of Chittagong will be named after legendary singer, guitarist, and songwriter Ayub Bachchu.

Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin made the announcement talking to reporters on Saturday at the maternal grandparents' house of Ayub Bachchu at East Madarbari in the city.

He also promised he would propose to the concerned ministry that a portion of the city's Muslim Hall Institute be named after Ayub Bachchu.

"Ayub Bachchu was an asset of Chittagong. His contribution to the country is beyond measure. Now it's our turn to return it," said the CCC Mayor.

The singer was brought to the Jamiatul Falah Mosque premises at 3:00pm where various social organizations and celebrities paid their last tribute to him. A janaza for Ayyub Bachchu followed at around 4.30pm.

On October 18, Ayub Bachchu died due to heart failure. He was pronounced dead by doctors at Square Hospital, Dhaka, when he was brought there in an unconscious state. The distinguished singer, guitarist, and songwriter was buried at the Chaitanya lane graveyard in Chittagong.
