Swinton talked about her school named Drumduan School, situated on the Moray Coast of Scotland
Popular Hollywood actor Tilda Swinton and Dhaka Lit Fest director Ahsan Akbar held an interactive session on alternative education and her Scotland school named Drumduan at AKSB auditorium in Bangla Academy on Friday afternoon on third and last day of DLF 2018.
She started off by saying how she looked forward to coming back to Bangladesh after she left from DLF last year and that she is already looking forward to next year.
Pointing out to the jam packed theatre, she said: “No festival can really exist or have any spirit at all without its audience, because you make the festival.”
Then Swinton talked about her school named Drumduan School, situated on the Moray Coast of Scotland, and how it is working with an alternative education model where there is no exam. The first batch of Drumduan graduated last year with 16 students and 15 of them have successfully enrolled into major colleges and universities around the globe from subjects ranging from music to medical science.
She also said the first batch even includes her own twin son and daughter who have enrolled into engineering and psychology respectively. The school is trying to break into the Scottish Education system and already discussing it with the Scotland government.
The Drumduan curriculum has some major unorthodox features including keeping its students off of all sorts of screen technology including computers and cell phones till the age of 16.
Drumduan enrolls students at seven years of age and nourishes them till 19 to 21 years of age.
Tilda said: “The whole idea of this is educating kids through experiences.”
