Warfaze joined Unicef as “Advocate for Child Rights” in a contract of two years. The announcement was made yesterday at the 14th Meena Awards 2018, an event held at the Pan-Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.

The percussionist of Warfaze, Sheikh Monirul Alam Tipu told Dhaka Tribune Showtime, “We were invited to join as ‘Advocate’ some months ago. We waited until today to reveal the surprise, because we wanted all the formalities to be complete. We also wanted Unicef to make the first official announcement.”

Regarding the feeling among Warfaze members during the announcement Tipu said: “It is hard to express in words what we felt during the announcement. We were very excited and happy, as this has been planned for months.”

In response to how they became involved with the cause Tipu said: “You all know Warfaze has always worked with causes that need attention. We first worked for victims of natural disasters. We worked for victims of acid attack. We have always been fervent believers of child rights, and were interested to work in this field. Unicef examined our past work and our entire profile, and they were the ones who sought us out. We are very happy that they did.

“Our role will be to promote rights of children for the next two years. It is too early to reveal specific events, we will be participating in. But we will do everything with Unicef’s direction.”
