In 2018, the number of cinema-goers was in decline, as everybody is in a hustle to be the next dot com billionaire, and there is Netflix. Online video streaming platforms are the go-to destinations for the busy people in this technology age, which begs the question, who watches films in theatres anymore? Here is a list of top five films, which made the most amount of money selling tickets

‘Avengers: Infinity War’

When “Avengers: Infinity War” came out, Marvel fans started spreading the rumour that it was the greatest superhero film ever made. The numbers on the geek-community website Screen Rant shows that the rumour was indeed effective. Even DC fans joined the Marvel march in hordes alongside the general audience. The film made a staggering $2.05 billion worldwide in the box office. Infinity War has set new all-time records for both domestic and worldwide opening weekends. If you value quality over quantity of superheroes, the film is considered to be critically acclaimed with an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. “Avengers: Endgame,” the sequel slated for early 2019, promises to perform even better.

‘Black Panther’

Did you notice at the beginning of this year, many of your friends acquired the annoying habit of crossing their arms over their chest and shouting, Wakanda forever at every random occasion? That was the “Black Panther” fever that took the world by a storm. Screen Rant reports that “Black Panther” is now the highest-grossing comic book film of all time in the US. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 97% score, so the quality of the film is never in doubt. And it has earned $1.35 billion worldwide.

‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’

Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park,” which came out in 1993, earned $1.029 billion worldwide in the box office. Everybody predicted that any new film of the franchise will not do well. How naïve were they? “Jurassic World” came out in 2015, and made $1.672 billion on the box office. Okay! So they were lucky. “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” came out this year and made $1.305 billion on the box office world-wide. These new films are not about critically acclaiming Chris Pratt’s acting skills and giving him an Oscar. These are about showing dinosaurs to a new generation of cinema-lovers. Watch them for the new-look dinosaurs.

‘Incredibles 2’

Fans of the incredible “The Incredibles” have been waiting 15 years for a sequel. Their wishes came true when “Incredibles 2” was released this year. The quality was retained with a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. As for its box-office haul, the film made $1.24 billion in the box office. Incredible numbers!

If any DC fans still courageously claim, that DC Universe films are better, then here is evidence number three in 2018, that Marvel Universe films are clearly better. Even if they don’t win many Oscars, at least they make the money. So much so, that actor Tom Hardy who played Bane in DC’s “The Dark Knight Rises,” decided to play a marvel anti-hero, taking a leaf out of Ryan Reynolds book. The result is “Venom” which made $854.4 million worldwide in the box office. Forget about the acting. Just watch the film for the super catchy end-credits song by Eminem. “Venom! Adrenaline momentum…”
