1. 'Debi' by Anam Biswas
Anam Biswas’ blockbuster hit feature film “Debi" based on popular Bangladeshi writer Humayun Ahmed’s novel of the same title, from the acclaimed “Misir Ali” series, will be screened at DIFF 2019.
Apart from the film's lead cast and producer Jaya Ahsan, the film “Debi- Misir Ali Prothombar,” stars Chanchal Chowdhury alongside Iresh Zaker, Animesh Aich, and Sabnam Faria in major roles.
2. ‘Rajadheeraj Razzak’ by Shykh Seraj
A feature length documentary based on the life of legendary Bangladeshi film actor Abdur Razzak, commonly referred to as Nayak Raj Razzak, will be screened at DIFF.
The 90-minute-long documentary is directed by television personality Shykh Seraj.The life, struggles, and success of the hero in his long and acclaimed film career is the main focus of the documentary.
3. ‘To Be Continued’ by Iftekhar Ahmed Fahmi
‘To Be Continued’ faced many ups and downs coming to the silver screen and the story morphed with the shooting of the movie. Fahmi says: “‘The story of a film can shape itself over time. Completing the film is important and that’s what I did.”
At first, the film was set to feature Tahsan and Purnima in leading roles. Later on, Tahsan withdrew himself from the production saying: “It’s been six years. The story of the film changed a lot during the shoot. That’s why I parted ways with the production and requested them to do the movie without me. I wish them all the best.”
This Channel i production stars Purnima, Mita Chowdhury, Abul Hayat, Aporna Ghoshe, Mishu Sabbir and Romel.
4. ‘Alta Banu’ by Arun Chowdhury
This Impress Telefilms production is based on a story by Faridur Reza Sagar. The film features a stellar cast including Zakia Bari Mamo, Anisur Rahman Milon, Farzana Rikta, Raisul Islam Asad, Dilara Zaman, Shamima Naznin, and Mamunur Rashid. The story centres on an sister’s quest to find her younger sister.
5. ‘Bhabnagar’ by Manjurul Haque
The film is based on the life and teachings of Lalon. Two hundred years ago, Lalon would have congregations in Kushtia, called “Shadhu Shongo,” where bauls and mystics exchanged views. Lalon devotees continue these assemblies to this day.
Director Manjurul Haque ethnographically documents this ritual over a period of thirteen years.
6. zPathshala’ by Faisal Roddy and Asif Islam
Experimental family drama “Pathshala” deals with the ambition, friendship, and struggles of a young boy.
The story of the film revolves around ten-year-old Manik, who leaves home for an undisclosed reason, although he was dutiful to his mother and was loved by teachers. He has a dream to pursue and an unfriendly city to live through, all by himself.
As the days pass, Manik (Habib Arinda) starts to realize that without education meeting his goal would be nearly impossible. He meets and befriends eight-year-old Chumki (Ima Akter Kotha), who appears to have magical powers, and with her help, he continues his journey to fulfill his dream.
The cast also includes Toufiqul Emon, Roksana Amin, Farhana Mithu, Rumy Huda, Amirul Islam Babu, and Selim Gatok.
Other films include, “Life in Rainbow” by Razibul Hossain, “Namta” by Golam Mostafa Shimul, “Jonmo Bhumee” by Proshoon Rahman, and “Ancient Trap” by Masum Aziz.
