Legendary singer and composer Subir Nandi, who was admitted to Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH), is still on life support and his condition remains unchanged.

The special medical review board, in charge of treating Subir, has been running various tests on him, and has decided to send him for a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test on Thursday.

According to a press statement from Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR), the eight-member medical review board has been running various tests to identify the best way to treat him. Consultant Physician Major General M Azizul Islam, Chief Physician and Cardiologist Brigadier General Syed Asif Iqbal, CMH Commandant Brigadier General Toufiqul Hasan Siddique, and Professor Samantalal Sen were present during the testing.

As per the decision of the medical review board on Thursday, in order to understand the state of Subir’s central nervous system, the MRI will be conducted. He underwent others  tests on April 15 and 16.

ISPR also said that Subir was taken to CMH’s emergency department at 11am of April 14. On his way back, on a train from Sreemangal, Subir vomited several times and felt a terrible pain in his throat. He became seriously ill after that. Within a few moments of that, he was taken to CMH, and had a cardiac arrest.

After three-to-four minutes of efforts by the doctors, his heart started pumping again, and then he was immediately placed on life support.  Later he was transferred to CMH’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Subir had been suffering from kidney problems for a long time, and was on dialysis. In 2013, Subir had a bypass surgery in the US for critical triple vessel coronary artery disease. This year he had an ngioplasty in US.

ISPR also saidthat before Subir’s cardiac arrest, in the emergency room of CMH, the potassium count in his blood was well above the normal measure. After he was transferred to CMH’s ICU he was given dialysis on an urgent basis. After the dialysis he was given therapeutic hypothermia treatment, which ended on April 17. He was given a second round of dialysis on the afternoon of the same day.
