Bangladeshi actor Jyotika Jyoti will soon debut on Kolkata's silver screen with the film Rajlokhi O Srikanto. The film will be released in West Bengal on September 20.

Rajlokhi O Srikanto's poster was unveiled on Friday, which also confirmed the release date. The film, which was inspired by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's immortal characters, stars Jyoti in the role of Rajlokhi, and Ritwick Chakraborty as Srikanto.

Jyoti told the Dhaka Tribune Showtime: "The film will feature a new Rajlokhi, which will be different from the ones portrayed by Shabana or Suchitra. It is not a direct adaptation of Sarat Chandra's novel. The film's plot had been arranged with inspiration from the novel. The setting of the film is based on contemporary times."

Jyoti revealed that the plot will show illegal border-crossing, refugees, human-trafficking, smuggling, and conflict in society due to religion, and nationality. Rajlokhi would be seen as a Bangladeshi girl from a broken family, who escapes to Kolkata. Then she falls in the trap of a human trafficking gang, which leads her to becoming  a sex worker.

Jyoti also told reporters that people had been asking her about the film for a long time. At one point she was tired of having to say that the release date had not been finalized. Now she feels relieved.

The film is directed by Pradipta Bhattacharyya of Bakita Byaktigato fame. It will also mark the debut of Jyoti in the Kolkata film industry.
