The former Prachyanat actor will portray the role of a migrant construction worker in HBO's Invisible Stories
Sudip Biswas Deep from Bangladesh starred in an HBO original titled Invisible Stories. He will portray the role of a migrant construction worker in Singapore in the six-episode-long drama series.
The series is produced by HBO Asia, the Southeast Asian division of the media company. It will premiere on January 5 on HBO and HBO Go, a video on demand (VOD) streaming service for North American, European and selected Southeast Asian nations.
The Dhaka Tribune’s Showtime contacted Sudip for more information on his recent endeavour.
How did HBO approach you?
In the year 2014. I starred in a short film which was directed by a Bangladeshi film-maker named Ruhul Robin Khan. The short film was screened in various international film festivals in 2016, including a film festival in Singapore. HBO producers from their Singapore headquarters contacted the film’s director, and he introduced me to them.
How did you respond when HBO asked for you?
Well, it was not that straight forward. They told me that they were looking for a specific character and asked to send them an audition reel. I shot the video as instructed, and emailed it to them. I finally got the call a few weeks afterwards, and then the whole grooming process began.
When and where did the shoot begin?
The first phase of the shooting began in June. My part of the series was completely shot in Singapore. I completed the final phase of my shoot in August and returned to Dhaka.
Will the Bangladeshi audience be able to watch it here?
I think so. I am not sure about the territory broadcast details as we watch the HBO India transmission. Moreover, as part of my non disclosure agreement (NDA), I cannot share all the details about it before its release. It will surely be available on the HBO channel and their streaming app HBO GO. But as far as I know, the HBO GO app is only available in the US and Southeast Asian countries.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a graduate from Dhaka University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. I am also a theatre actor and have worked with Prachyanat Theatre Troupe from 2009 to 2015.
