Alliance Française de Dhaka has organized a unique exhibition for the art lovers of the city. The on-going solo tapestry and painting exhibition by artist Tajul Islam features 33 tapestry artworks and 32 paintings.

The  exhibition titled Composition of Forms and Colours begun at La Galerie of Alliance Française in Dhanmondi on Friday (November 15).

Eminent architect Rabiul Husain attended the opening ceremony as the chief guest, while veteran artist Professor Hamiduzzaman Khan attended the event as the special guest.

Most of the displayed works are abstract and combine various colours. Calligraphy dominates many of the displayed canvases, and the presence of bright colour in those artworks catches the  attention of the visitors. On the other hand, tapestry artworks also draws the art lovers' attention.

Artist Taijul Islam spent 14 years with Rashid Chowdhury — known as a pioneer in tapestry art in Bangladesh — in his studio, honing the craft of creating compelling and beautiful tapestries.

The septuagenarian artist is still active and beaming, creating inspirational tapestries full of life and movement. Featuring both tapestries and paintings, the theme for this exhibition is Inventing the Creative Beauty.

Tajul’s canvases or screens are full of colourful forms and black and white, red, yellow, blue and green patches, that express various concepts and perceptions of aesthetic human realization.

The exhibition will be open to all till November 23.
