Visually impaired actors of the play Lottery convey important message to mainstream media
The curtain fell on week-long theatre festival Notuner Utshab 2019, at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on Thursday.
Organized by renowned theatre troupe Nagarik Natya Sampradaya, the festival received much attention from both the media and audiences.
Abul Hayat, vice president of the troupe, presided over the closing ceremony. Celebrated playwright and researcher, Professor Abdus Selim, and actor-director Tarik Anam Khan, were present on the occasion as special guests.
At the closing ceremony, the organisers honoured four eminent theatre personalities: Ferdausi Majumdar, Jyotsna Biswas, Lucky Enam, and Shimul Yousuff. They also provided financial support to the assistants of two artistes at the event.
The seven new productions showcased at the festival are: Kalo Joler Kabbo by Nagorik Natya Sampradaya, Radharaman by Sunamganj Association O Bandhan Theatre, Akashey Phuitechhe Phul-Leto Kahon, by Nagorik Natyangan Bangladesh, Arupratan by Porishor, Khoabnama by Prachyanat, O Mon Papia by Manipuri Theatre, and Lottery by Mongoldeep Foundation (with creative support from Nagorik Natya Sampradaya).
Following the closing ceremony, the play Lottery was staged. Directed by Mostafiz Shahin, the play features visually impaired actors on stage.
Lottery actors entertained the audience with their witty dialogue and remarkable acting. The play’s storyline emphasizes the role of media and journalists in preventing fake news.
Music, and the acting by the visually impaired actors were top notch. They were repeatedly encouraged by laughter and rounds of applause from the audience.
Both set and costume design of the unique play came to life with controlled stage lighting.
Renowned actor-director Sara Zaker was the dramaturge for this play. Mongoldeep Foundation and Nagorik Natya Sampradaya plan to bring this play to the stage on a regular basis.
The festival was inaugurated on November 29.
