Artcell celebrates 20 years anniversary in style

Artcell remembered Rupok  while performing Pothchola, Opshori, Odekha Shorgo and Rupok o ekti Gaan

Artcell, one of the leading progressive rock bands in the country, celebrated their 20 years anniversary at the Basundhara Convention centre ICCB expo zone on Tuesday evening with a grand show.

The celebratory show was titled 20 years of Artcellism, an unstoppable journey. The show created much hype among the Artcell fans as two of the founder members of the band, bassist Saef Al Nazi Cezanne and drummer Kazi Sajjadul Asheqeen Shaju are back with the other founder member vocalist George Lincoln De Costa and recently joined lead guitarist Kazi Faisal Ahmed.

As both Shaju and Cezanne are residing in Australia, this is the second occasion for the band to perform in a concert with these four members after the Joy Bangla concert back in March, 2019.

Crowd started to gather from afternoon at the venue as the gate opened at 3 pm. The show started around 6:10 pm with fireworks and short display of the band’s journey over the years and crowds welcomed the band with loud cheer and were ecstatic to see the band on stage.

Artcell started the concert with three of their popular numbers Rahur Grash, Onnoshomoy and Utshober Utshahe.

Later, they performed new track Obhoy. Next, they performed Sporsher Onubhuti and Ei Bidaye.  Jahan from Black performed with Artcell on Ei Bidaye as a guest artist. 

Ishtiak Tanvir Ishmi, vocalist of band Minerva, performed with the band on their latest released Shongshoy.

A few emerging and popular bands performed with the Artcell or covered Artcell's popular numbers at  the show. 

Artcell members welcomed every guest artists and expressed their gratitude to have them on the celebratory event and also heap praises and wish them luck to continue their successful journey in Bangladesh rock music industry.

In the second segment of the show, four guest bands performed and covered Artcell  songs: Unmad (Bhul Jonmo), Crunch (Shohid Shoroni), Naïve, Trainwreck (Gontobbohin)

The third segment of the show was dedicated to Rupok who was a close friend and the lyricist of the band in the early years. Rupok died due to cerebral malaria before even Artcell released their debut album. 

Artcell remembered Rupok  while performing Pothchola, Opshori, Odekha Shorgo and Rupok o ekti Gaan. Rupok was the lyricist of the first three songs. 

Rafa from Avoid Rafa performed on Opshori while Ali performed in Odekha Shorgo and DRockstar Shuvo  sang in Rupok o Ekti Gaan.

Heavy metal bands like Power Surge and Mechanix performed Mukhosh and Bangladesh Sriti o Amra.

Later Arbovirus (Srityshrok), Shironamhin (Dhushor Shomoy) and Romel Ali (Obosh Onubhutir Deyal, Tomake and Dukkho Bilash) also performed with Artcell as guest performers with these numbers.

Artcell also played a tribute medley honoring few of their influencing bands, Rockstrata, LRB, Miles, Aurthohin and Warfaze, in the third segment. And they finished the show with their popular tracks Auniket Prantor (with Bakhtiar of Bay of Bengal as guest artist) and Chile Kothar Shepai. 

Artcell’s former lead guitarist Ershad Zaman wished the band good luck on big screens and thanked the fans for their support over the years.

Asiatic Experiential Marketing Limited, the organizers of the event did a great job with the stage, lighting and display, and most importantly quality sound for the show which made the concert even a better one. 

It was a festive like atmosphere at Bashundhara Convention Center as Miles, one of the pioneers and legendary leading bands of Bangladesh, was also performing on the occasion of their 40-year anniversary at Hall 3, Bashundhara center.

So the whole Bashundhara premise was thriving with celebrations of the music lovers from different generations, who have followed Bangladesh rock music as the fans of Artcell and Miles.  

In the end, Artcell members thanked the fans for their support and love and for gathering in the cold winter night to celebrate with the band in their historic event.  The band promised to produce more quality music in near future. The event was a full-house show and It was indeed a memorable night for eight thousand of crowds, often called as Artcell Army, to enjoy the moment and celebrate wholeheartedly with their favorite artists.
