On Christmas Day, Nirvana  achieved a new milestone for the band's iconic music video on Smells Like Teen Spirit. The video hit 1 billion views on YouTube on Christmas day this year, reports Billboard.

Krist Novoselić, the band's former bassist, took to Twitter to celebrate the landmark, retweeting the news.

He wrote: "Thanks to you all!!!!" In the lead-up to the moment, he also gave a shout-out to late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, declaring, "The One Billionth view will be for Kurt!!!!"

Smells Like Teen Spirit was both the opener and lead single for Nirvana's diamond-certified sophomore album, Nevermind released in 1991.

The video also recently named YouTube's second-most-watched video of the 1990s, behind Guns N' Roses' November Rain.
