The 20th TRAB Awards were handed over to media personalities at a ceremony organized by Television Reporters' Association Bangladesh (TRAB) on Monday.
Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Chowdhury, the chief guest at the ceremony, handed over the awards. He urged television journalists to highlight the developmental works initiated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
In his remarks on the occasion, the minister said that the print and electronic media remained busy in highlighting negative news that undermined the trust and confidence of the people even as the government had been working for the betterment of the country.
He distributed crests among the award winners for their outstanding contributions in various sectors of arts and culture, including drama, songs, film- making and journalism.
Stage and television actor Ataur Rahman and Lalon and folk singer Farida Parveen achieved Lifetime Achievement Awards, while TV presenter Jennifer Ferdous, pop singer Mehreen Mahmud, film-maker Arun Chowdhury, actor Ferdous and Raju Alim received were honoured for their individual work.
Impress Telefilm received special awards. Prime Minister's office secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, General Secretary of Bangladesh Federal Journalists Union Shaban Mahmud and Dhaka Journalists Union General Secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury were also present on the occasion.
