The sixth edition of Dhaka International Conference on Women in Cinema concluded on Monday at the Dhaka Club's Samson Lounge. This year's conference was dedicated to the notable cultural figure Pratiti Devi. who recently passed away.
Pratiti was the twin sister of prominent Bangali film-maker Ritwik Ghatak. She breathed her last at the age of 94 on Sunday at 8:40pm, at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital.
She was born on November 4, 1925, in a house on Hrishikesh Das Road, Old Dhaka. She, along with most of her family, migrated to West Bengal but she returned after partition of India in 1947.
The closing ceremony began with a minute of silence to pay tribute to Pratiti Devi's life.
Among the film enthusiasts who attended the conference from all over the world, there were Indian film-maker and actor Aparajita Ghosh, Jaffna International Cinema Festival Director Anomaa Rajakaruna, Italian film-maker and the founder of Religion Today Film Festival Lia Beltrami, Dhaka University’s Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Associate Professor Sabrina Sultana Chowdhury, and many others. The ceremony was also attended by Liberation War Museum Trustee Mofidul Hoque, and it was presided over by the conference director Sydney Levine.

A total of six keynote papers were presented at the conference, focusing on matters such as improving the standard and content in films based on women and creating interaction among the women who are involved in cinema.
Rainbow Film Society, the organizer of Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF), has been annually holding this international conference as part of the festival since 2015. This year's DIFF is scheduled to end on January 19.
