The two-day long program on the 12th death anniversary of the renowned playwright and theatre artiste Selim Al Deen, organised by the department of Drama and Dramatics of Jahangirnagar University, concluded on Wednesday.
On the second day, a film discussion session, titled Cinema and Conversations, was held on the film, Jaiboti Konya'r Mon.
Later, the play Sohrab Rustom was staged. The discussion on it took place at 4pm at the Old Arts building of Jahangirnagar University.
Nargis Akter, director of Jaiboti Konya'r Mon, Professor Rashid Harun and Associate Professor Soma Mumtaz of the Department of Drama and Dramatics of Jahangirnagar University, spoke at the event.
Professor Rashid Harun said: "Jaiboti Konya’r Mon remains one of the most influential works of Selim Al Deen to this day. There is undoubtedly no other medium more suitable than cinema to breathe life into a work as unforgettable as this one. I would like to express my gratitude particularly to Nargis Akter for successfully directing a film based on this play.”
The Convener of the Commemoration Committee, Md Israful Ahmed, confirmed that a play called, Sohrab-Rustam at the Theatre Lab of Zahir Raihan Auditorium of Jahangirnagar University was also staged at 6pm.
Selim Al Deen was born in Shenerkhil village of Sonagazi Upazila of Feni on 18 August 1949. In 1974 he joined Jahangirnagar University as a lecturer. He was the founder Chairman of the Department of Drama and Dramatics of Jahangirnagar University. Deen died at Labaid Cardiac Hospital in Dhaka in 2008. He was buried in a graveyard near the Jahangirnagar University central mosque.
