DUFS arranges film conversations with distinguished artists on a weekly basis.
Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) will host prominent Bangladeshi film-maker Kamar Ahmad Simon tonight at 8.30pm as part of its weekly Cholochitro Adda programs. Kamar will lead the conversation on cinema with film activists and enthusiasts via Facebook Live.
Previously on May 16, DUFS hosted renowned film-maker and musician Anjan Dutt who addressed a wide array of topics ranging from his craft and that of his contemporaries to his firm reluctance to make music any longer over the course of a three-hour conversation.
On May 28, Arifur Rahman, producer of Matir Projar Deshe and Live from Dhaka, made an appearance via Facebook Live on DUFS’ official Facebook page and discussed the politics entrenched in the country’s independent cinema.
Kamar, who delayed the release of his latest film Neel Mukut due to the coronavirus scare, is expected to share his insights tonight as to how the film industry has been affected in the recent months. He will also talk about his Water Trilogy as well as the film society movement in Bangladesh.
Kamar’s Shunte Ki Pao! (Are you Listening!), the first part of the Water Trilogy, has cemented his position as a promising new generation film-maker of Bangladesh ever since its release and earned him the prestigious National Film Award for Best Documentary Film in 2015.
Shunte Ki pao! remains the first Bangladeshi film to have been selected among the top ten lists out 125 in the La Cinema Du Monde (World's Cinema) in Cannes Film Festival.
DUFS arranges film conversations with distinguished artists on a weekly basis. Due to the nation-wide lockdown, the conversations have been relocated from the TSC premises of Dhaka University to Facebook Live, much like most things these days.
