The band’s statement read: “We of the RHCP family would like to wish Jack Sherman smooth sailing into the worlds beyond, for he has passed. Jack played on our debut album as well as our first tour of the USA. He was a unique dude and we thank him for all times good, bad and in between. Peace on the boogie platform.”
Sherman joined the Chili Peppers in 1983, after founding guitarist Hillel Slovak left. He co-wrote five of the funk-rock band’s 1984 self-titled debut album’s 11 tracks.
He was later fired from the Peppers after Slovak joined back, but he still co-wrote seven of the 14 songs on the band’s 1985 sophomore album, Freaky Styley.
