The folk festival has been taking place annually at the Banani Army Stadium since 2015
The three-day festival, celebrating South Asian folk music, has been cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic. Dhaka International Folk Festival (DIFF), organized by Square Toiletries Limited and Sun Foundation, will not take place this year.
Despite taking all the necessary precautions and arrangements, the organizers decided to cancel this year’s edition to minimize risk of spreading Covid-19.
The 5th DIIFF, held last year on November 14, was dedicated to six legends of Bangla music: Fakir Abdur Rob Shah, Subir Nandi, Bari Siddiqui, Shahnaz Rahmatullah, Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul, and Ayub Bachchu.
The cancellation news came as a disappointment to music enthusiasts across the country, who had a rare opportunity every year since 2015 to revel in the rich folk music of Bangladesh.
The folk festival has been taking place annually at the Banani Army Stadium for the last five years.
