The stunning cast of Netflix comedy 'Don’t Look Up' also includes Cate Blanchett, Rob Morgan, Himesh Patel, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Matthew Perry and Tomer Sisley
Director of political biopic Vice, Adam McKay’s latest project will be led by one of the most star-studded casts in recent Hollywood history.
The remarkable line-up includes big names like Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, Jonah Hill, Rob Morgan, Himesh Patel, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Matthew Perry, Tomer Sisley and Jennifer Lawrence.
The Netflix comedy will tell the story of two low-level astronomers who discover the frightening truth that the earth is going to be destroyed by an incoming giant asteroid. The Hunger Games actor Lawrence committed to the project a while ago; she is set to play one of the astronauts.
The film’s budget was estimated to be around $75 million; however, Netflix dismissed the number as incorrect.
“I’m so thrilled to make this movie with Jen Lawrence. She’s what folks in the 17th century used to call a dynamite act. And the fact that Netflix sees this movie as a worldwide comedy sets the bar high for me and my team in an exciting and motivating way,” Mckay said earlier this year.
Leonardo DiCaprio was reportedly undecided about this project due to his prior commitment to Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. The actor seems to have sorted out his scheduling issues.
McKay, who directed Dick Cheney’s biopic Vice, which was as cynical and dark as its protagonist, wanted to return to something lighthearted. He informed fans that his next project would not be as wacky as the comedies he made earlier in his career.
“I would compare it (Don’t Look Up) more to somewhere between the Mike Judge stuff and Wag the Dog. A hard funny satire is what we’re going for,” the director said.
