Bollywood Actor Asif Basra was found hanging at a private guest house in Mcleodganj in Himachal Pradesh's Dharamshala on Thursday, November 12.
The police informed the media that a forensic team has been sent to the spot to examine the cause of his death.
"Film actor Asif Basra was found hanging in a private complex in Dharamshala. The forensic team is at the spot and police is investigating the matter," the Kangra superintendent of police, Vimukt Ranjan said.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta reacted to the news on Twitter, “Asif Basra! Can’t be true… This is just very, very sad.”
The actor was reportedly suffering from depression for some time.
Basra, who was recently seen in Paatal Lok, is best known for his memorable roles in Anurag Kashyap's Black Friday and Rahul Dholakia's Parzania.
An esteemed theatre actor, he played five characters in Feroz Abbas Khan's production of Mahatma v/s Gandhi - one of the most successful Indian plays.
Asif Basra was born in Maharashtra's Amravati in 1967. He moved to Mumbai in 1989 to pursue acting. Over the course of his career, he appeared in films like Kai Po Che, Jab We Met, Hichki, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Krrish 3, Ek Villain among others.
