Global Youth Film Festival begins in Bandarban

After Lakshmipur, Rangpur and Mymensingh, GYFFB 2020 will be held from December 26-28 in Bandarban

Global Youth Film Festival takes place at different districts in Bangladesh each year. After Lakshmipur, Rangpur and Mymensingh, GYFFB 2020 is commencing on December 26 in the amid the hilly region of Bandarban.

The festival, organized by Cinema Bangladesh, will screen 75 films selected out of 1400 submissions by young filmmakers from 101 countries. Thespian Ramendu Majumdar, who is also the Chief Adviser of Cinema Bangladesh, will inaugurate the festival. Seven films will be awarded on the closing ceremony on December 28.

The Jury Board includes filmmakers Morshedul Islam, Abu Sayeed, and Arifur Rahman, actors Farida Akhtar Bobita, and Tropa Majumdar, and film critic Sadia Khalid Reeti.

GYFFB producer Hemanta Sadeeq expressed his delight at the quality of submissions this year for the Hiralal Sen Best Bangladeshi Film award. The festival will also host a filmmaking workshop.

Among the special screenings this year are Morshedul Islam's Amar Bondhu Rashed, Giasuddin Selim's Swapnajaal and Taneem Rahman Angshu's No Dorai. The screenings will be followed by Q&A sessions with the cast/crew of the films.

Festival Director Jisan Mahadi said: "We could not accommodate any international guests this year for the pandemic. Foreign directors will join through video conferences throughout the festival."

The festival is free for all and will maintain all protocols to ensure the safety of the guests.
